Special Birthday Card

A very special person is turning 80 years old in a few short months.  Her awesome daughter and one of my closest friends came up with this amazing idea to have all her Facebook friends send cards to her mother to help her celebrate.  Of course I was game, but I had to make one instead of visiting the local Hallmark store.  The front was inspired by Paige Dolecki's card from a few years ago.  Check out her blog and the post here.  The inside was all from my head!  So here goes..

 

The card is from Close To My Heart and came in a workshop on the go that I bought for something else.  I ripped and embossed pieces of Champagne Close to My Heart Cardstock for the sand.  I inked them with Fun Stampers Journey Oatmeal Cookie ink.  The blue background is from blue cardstock that I bought from JoAnn Fabrics.  I cut the Happy Crab with my Silhouette.  I popped the layers up with foam dots and inked them with Fun Stampers Journey Cranberry Bliss ink.  The inside is an additional piece of the ripped cardstock and a crab punched with my Martha Stewart Crab Punch.  All of the sentiments, from the AmyR Oh So Beachy stamp set, were inked with Fun Stampers Journey Black Licorice ink.  The happy birthday sentiment was really happy "belated" birthday, but I cut it apart so the fonts would match.

Christmas Projects Complete

Finally finished the last of my Christmas cards!!! 

For the card I used May Arts ribbon, the moose is from the Silhouette store and the paper is from My Minds Eye.

I also made a few gift card holders.  So super quick and easy!!

This is the insde.  I decided to cut a gift card insert so the card woulnd't be floating around on the inside.

I followed the tutorial found on the Loven Stamps Blog.  Great tutorial give it a shot!! I made 3 of these in less than an hour from 1 sheet of 12x12 paper!

Gift Card Holder

Ok, so I really hate those boring gift card holders that you get at the store.  I also just didn't feel like buying a box of cards to only give out 5 because we're putting a gift card inside, so I decided to make my own.  Well, all the ideas on pinterest and I just oculdn't make a decision.  I didn't want just a tag with the card in it.  I didn't like the cards with the holder on the front, because we all know teenagers aren't opening the card if the cash is on the front.  So, I decided on a normal A2 size card and I found an insert in the Silhouette store and cut it down to fit.  So the pictures were quick that I took with my cell phone, it was midnight after all an I needed to be at work this morning, but ya'll get the idea.

It's time for a Birthday Card

Woohoo!!! My other half is getting older, he's 36 today!!! Sounds like a great excuse for a birthday card for me!!! Normally I make him cards that look like they're for a 36 year old, but this year, NOPE! I had to use this cute owl print and cut image from the Silhouette store!!! A few balloons cut on my Cricut Machine, some stamps, an enamal dots made for a quick A2 size card!!  Can't wait to give it to him today, he's gonna love it!

DCWV Stack-a-holic Challenge

I'm playing along with the DCWV Stack-a-holic Challenge this month.  I loved the sketch and immediately had a page in mind.  On my trip to Florida with my Mom we got to meet the Cat in the Hat.  All the characters met in a specific area in Suess Landing so we got a bunch of great pictures.  We also had a little fun in one of the shops trying on hats.

The Cat in the Hat is a print and cut design that I created using Silhouette Studio.  I used the My Sunshine DCWV Stack for this layout.  You can play along with the October Stack-A-Holic challenge too!! Check out their blog for the this months sketch and all of the directions!

The Lorax

So on our trip to Florida a couple of years ago (talk about behind) we got to get big hugs from The Lorax!!!  While I was away scrapbooking this weekend I learned a new tip for print and cut with the Silhouette!!! Print your image twice on photo paper and pop it up on pop dots!!! So now my Lorax looks 3D  and it's just a better printed image.  This is definately something I think I'll do more often, I love the look of it!  I used foam tape instead of dots so it was faster to take the backing off.

So this project is even great for little kids! How much do they love making a mess, well this has a fabulous mess factor.  You should see the carpet in my scrapbook room after this one!

Painted Christmas Ornament Tutorial

What you need:

1) Acrylic Paint (cheaper at Walmart)

2) Typical round glass ornament

3) Vinyl

4) Contact Paper (cheaper at Walmart)

5) heat tool (even a blow dryer works for this)

 

I picked up the ornaments from AC Moore there were 4 in a box. Take the silver cap off of the ornament.

 Pour in the acrylic paint and swril it around until it covers the entire inside of the ornament.  Turn the ornament upside down and sit inside a plastic cup so the excess pain can drain out.  

Create your vinyl designs with Silhouette or Cricut and cut them out.  Peal off the excess vinyl around the design.  Cut a peice of contact paper and get some of the sticky off, by sticking it to your clothes, then stick it over the top of your vinyl design.  Peel the vinyl design from it's backing and place it on your ornament.

One tip to make this easier, cut small slits in the contact paper so that it has some mobility when adhearing it to the round ornament.  Use your scrapper to rub the design onto the glass.  Peel off the contact paper.  make sure that all the air bubbles are out of the deisgn.  Use your heat gun to heat up the the vinyl and then rub over the vinyl again to be sure it is stuck to the glass.  Tie a bow in a coordinating color and you're ready to give your gift at Christmas!

 

Glittered Christmas Ornament Tutorial

So this is the stuff you'll need.  All of it can be found at Walmart, with the exception of the ornaments. They're the same ornaments used above from AC Moore.  Although I'm sure Walmart has them too, I didn't look.

Take the silver cap off of the ornament and pour in the pledge floor cleaner.  Pour the floor cleaner in the ornament and swril it around to coat the inside.  Turn it over in a paper cup to drain out excess floor cleaner.

Put the funnel inside the ornament.  Pour in the glitter.  Over the coffee filter swirl the glitter around to coat the inside of the ornament.  The more glitter you pour in the more glitter affect you'll receive.  Dump the excess glitter into the coffee filter and use the filter to pour the glitter back into the container.  Put the silver cap back on the ornament and you're done!  I will be cutting vinyl for this and I'll heat set it as I did in the above tutorial.  

 

 

Kiwi Lane Designs Product Review

One of my favorite purchases at the scrapbook expo were the borders, photo sets, and accessories from Kiwi Lane. Check out there site when you get a chance. They're great for page planning and cutting pictures to the perfect size without all the guess work. We've all cut a picture in the wrong spot before well these fix that problem! They're completely see through, you trace and cut, perfect every time!! Love the borders to use specific designs on the corner of a page without just having a boring straight cut. The accessories are nice too even if you just use them for placement and cut them with your Silhouette or Cricut. So check them out and enjoy my first page with them!! My borders are from the Madison Avenue set; I used the arrow and bracket from the Sweetheart set. I inked all of my edges with distress inks and I cut the film strip from Silhouette.

Weekend in the woods

I'm back!!!! I've been back for a week.  I spent last weekend in the woods with a great group of ladies geting a lot of page done!!!  I actually page planned for this trip and managed to get 36 pages that I had planned completed and a couple of extras!  It was a great time!!! 

I jazzed up a little pinterest inspiration for this one.  So super easy!!  A couple strips of paper and a mickey punch and that was about it.  I cut the hands and the Disney logo with my cricut, I punched out all the Mickey heads with my punch, but the cricut does make those as well.  Martha Stewart Christmas Twine for the balloons and banner bows.  The embossing paste that I mentioned in my haul video was used on the banners with the designs.  I had to try it before I could make a video and talk about super easy!  I used a DCWV Stencil that I picked up at JoAnns, i used the white embossing paste let it dry and then colored it with a Fiber-Castele Gelato in yellow. 

My Godson is playing Basketball now!  So we're not sure he's doing football again, but at the moment he has decided basketball is his entire life.  Oh to only be 7 again!! Love it!!!  So this was quick.  The letters were cut on the Silhouette and the basketball hoops on the cricut.  The other embellishments came in a pack of stickers I just popped a few up and grouped them together, nothing too fancy, but it was probably one of my favorite pages of the weekend.

This is one of my God Daughter's pictures from her 1 year old birthday photo shoot last year.  She'll be 2 this year.  OMG they grow up entirely too fast!!!  I always blur her out and especially this one because she's in swimwear and you just have to be so careful now.  For this page I wanted to create a little texture so I used the DCWV cork 6x6.  The ruler came from a pack of paper I had in my stash I honestly don't remember.  I'm sure it was in a DCWV paper pad though.  Nothing fancy just a few layers and great textures.  That's always fun on any page!! 

I have quite a few more pages, that I'll be posting as I unpack.  I'm a little slow this time because I have a day crop coming up too so I won't be unpacking completely. 

Happy Mother's Day everyone!!! I'll be spending it with my God Daughter!! I can't wait!!

Super Fast Post

Just a quick second to post a couple more layouts from my trip. 

My Silhouette got a work out on these two layouts.  I just love that machine.  I also can't get enough of the Lawn Fawn stamps and dies.  The Giraffe on the journal block is from the Lawn Fawn Critters on the Savanna set and there are matching dies available.  I'm now on the hunt for the new Lawn Fun Summer release of stamps and dies.  I will be contacting my LSS this week to see if they have them.
